Educational staff development, also known as professional development, has gone through many changes over the years and continues to do so. Today staff development for teachers and other school staff is crucial due to the key role of accountability in our school structure. Effective professional development for educators must be based on the proven results of research and good practice. The design and management of staff development is truly an Art. The Art of Staff Development presents a process to guide the site-based staff developers in schools as they organize and plan effective staff development.

This workshop will provide the information and tools that will enable your school staff development committee to have a clearer understanding of the new Learning Forward Standards. Each team will receive a copy of the book, Standards for Professional Learning. Time will be given for teams to discuss how to incorporate the new Standards into their professional development activities. See the registration form for details about this important event.

Workshop Purpose
This workshop will provide a specific process for your site-based staff development committee as they direct the planning, implementation, and evaluation of staff development activities in a way that positively impacts student achievement as it enhances adult learning. The goal is to provide the training and tools to have your site staff development committee operate effectively and efficiently and achieve its purpose successfully. The workshop book with accompanying CD, The Art of Staff Development, is included. During Day 3, time will be available to develop planning for the implementation and evaluation of your 2008 staff development activities.
